Bad Ischler was once a famous Austrian resort, located in a region where hazelnuts, almonds, and walnuts grew in abundance. It has given its name to a number of special miniature nut-flavored tidbits, including these cookies, also known as Ischler Toertchen, and the Nuss Busserln, or Nut Kisses, which you’ll find.

When making the following recipe, take care to press the decorative whole almonds firmly into the tops of the cookies—all
