Lünburger Heide is an area in northern Germany near the town of Bremen. It is flat, sandy, and desolate, with little vegetation other than shrubs and brushes. The closest English translation of the word heide is probably “prairie.” While Heide Sand Cookies take their name from this region, they are made throughout Germany and also by the Scandinavian neighbors to the north.
