The descent of this famous tart is somewhat obscure, but one can generally assume that it originated in the town of Linz, which is located in upper Austria on the banks of the river Danube. The Danube, which has inspired so many great pieces of music, majestically flows eastward, traveling through the birthplaces of two other well-known pastry creations: Vienna, home of the Sacher Torte, and Budapest, where the Dobos Torte was introduced.
