I am surprised that this flavor combination has not made its way into the commercial marketplace. Many years ago, a friend gave me this recipe; he said it had been in his family for quite some time. This ice cream goes with just about any dessert, but I particularly like it served with fresh strawberries or strawberry sauce. Like mangoes and papayas, pureed ripe bananas have a creamy, full-bodied texture that gives the ice cream a silky-smooth consistency. The crunchy poppy seeds contrast wonderfully. Any nut-flavored liqueur may be substituted for the Frangelico if you want to experiment. Macadamia nut liqueur is especially nice if you can find it.
