This is a rich caramel sauce that is meant to be served hot. It will be quite thick when it has cooled, even just to room temperature. If the sauce is to be used to mask a plate, for example, you should thin it with water to the desired consistency, or you can use the Clear Caramel Sauce. Fortified caramel sauce is perfect for serving with ice cream or apple or pear tarts.
