Truth be told, I almost never eat these pears with cookies. I eat them whole, cutting bites with my spoon and slurping up the poaching liquid. I call these “Elizabeth David Moments” because legendary food writer Elizabeth David wasn’t one to mince words and taught me the beauty of austere meals. I imagine a cold poached pear would conclude her famous “omelet and glass of wine” dinner.
