There is nothing revolutionary about this combination of spiced molasses cake and pears, but the combination doesn’t suffer from its ubiquity. Cranberries, apples, or even pineapple make good substitutes for pears in a pinch.
Line the bottom of a 9 in [23 cm] cake pan with a round of parchment. Lay the pears cut-side down evenly inside the cake pan, stem end pointing toward the center. Pour the cake batter over the pears gently so as to not disturb them.
