These delicious little morsels contain Chinese five-spice powder, a warm, pungent mix that includes star anise and cinnamon. The key to speedy preparation is having some cooked quinoa handy. The patties are great for a quick supper dish or a sizzling summer barbecue, served with pak choi and cooked quinoa with shallots and garlic.

Ingredients

  • vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed

Method

  1. Heat 15 ml/1 tbsp oil in a medium frying pan. Add the onion, garlic and apple and fry for 3-4 minutes, until softened. Remove from the heat and transfer to a large bowl.
