When I asked a friend in Dublin recently if he knew any bakery in Dublin still selling gur cake, and mentioned fondly a bakery that used to sell a good version, he laughed and said, “You are so living in a Dublin of twenty years ago!” So maybe gur cake isn’t as common as it once was, but anyone in Dublin can tell you all about it (assuming they are over twenty years of age, of course).
