The term redbait has a different and unattractive connotation in American English than rossetti in Italian, but there is not a proper English term to describe the fry (newborn fish) of red mullet. In Liguria, bianchetti (or gianchetti in dialect) are whitebait, or the fry of anchovies. Rossetti, to Ligurians, are just as delicious but they taste slightly different.
