In Malaysian homes, there is always a bottle of chilli sauce handy for enjoying with snacks or meals! This homemade chilli sauce goes well with almost anything! Try it with the keropok lekor.

  • 225 g (8 oz) sugar
  • 500 ml (16 fl oz / 2 cups) water
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • 110 g (4 oz) dried chilli paste, or to taste
  • 250 ml (8 fl oz / 1 cup) white vinegar
  • 2 tsp salt

  • Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn the heat to low and let it simmer for 30 minutes to an hour, or until the sauce is thick and sticky.
