Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish using butter.

To make batter, cream butter and sugars in the bowl of a stand-up electric mixer; beat in vanilla and egg. Combine baking soda and 1 tablespoon hot water in a small bowl; add to butter mixture.
