A chicken soup with kreplach—ravioli-like dumplings—eaten on the seventh, and last day of the feast of Sukkot. The veil of dough that hides the filling symbolizes God’s forgiveness of man’s mistakes. At other times during the holiday, vegetables and fruit take pride of place. Among the Ashkenazim from the North African coast, Egypt in particular, a broad bean soup was eaten on the sixth day.
