Rice and noodles are a popular side dish in most of the Arab countries. If serving this at a meat meal, use oil and water or meat or poultry broth. If served at a dairy meal, you may use butter and water or vegetable broth.

Ingredients

Method

Rinse and drain the rice in a fine-mesh sieve.

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter or heat the oil over medium heat and sauté the noodles, stirring often, until golden brown. Stir in the rice until all the grains are coated. Add the water or broth and salt. Bring to a boil and cook until the water has been partly absorbed and little holes appear in the top of the rice. Cover, reduce h
