If royal icing isn’t your thing, try this easy glaze icing instead. I usually use an empty squeeze bottle for decorating cookies when working with this glaze icing. It’s not as stable as royal icing, but when applied in a thin layer, it will dry within 24 hours.

Ingredients

  • cups (180 g) confectioners’ sugar, sifted, plus more if needed
  • ½ teaspoon pure vani

Method

  1. Whisk the confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, corn syrup, and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of water in a medium bowl until combined. The icing will be quite thick. Using the whisk, drizzle a little of the icing back into the bowl. If it’s the right consistency, the ribbon of icing will hold for a couple seconds then disappear and smooth out into the icing.
