Little melon boats with glacé cherry pennants and Parma ham sails. Hands up who remembers those? They probably still exist somewhere, but when I grew up they were the height of exotic on menus up and down the land. The thing is, melons are kind of destined to be made into little boats: it’s all in the shape. Similarly, watermelons are just asking to be made into big boats and punch bowls.
This salad is a great party pudding – light and yet fun, great for sharing. I will leave it up
