As kids we used to catch eels in the local creek: I’d wade into the stony creek bed to about ankle depth with three or four of my friends, then we’d all slide our hands under the rocks and feel for eels hiding beneath the stones. When we found one, someone would block the eel’s exit, forcing it to swim towards us, and whoever the eel got closest to would quickly grab it and throw it up onto the river bank.
