There’s a wonderful shop on the via Ripetta in the Centro Histórico of Rome called Pan e Formaggio (bread and cheese). This small shop produces a good number of breads and pastries and carries an excellent selection of cheeses. You can sit at the long marble counter and refresh yourself with a sandwich made with the shop’s delicious, nutty whole wheat breads or a slice from one of the enormous pizza rusticas that sit impressively in their large, black pans.
