I have adapted this delicious cake from one in Barbara Doig’s recipe book, a fabulous personal collection of treats, from cakes and puddings to soups and sauces. My own favourite, meat-roll, is also in there. As a child, I used to love it when I was invited by Isabelle to stay at her house for tea, especially when her mum’s meat-roll was being served.
Her apple cake recipe says it can be served warm for pudding or cold with a cup of tea.
