Bridies and pies are still very much a part of life in Dundee and Angus. And whereas the best pies have traditionally come from Dundee, the best bridies are from Forfar. J.M. Barrie mentioned bridies in one of the novels he wrote at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He was native of Kirriemuir, some five miles north-west of Forfar and so would have been very familiar with the bridies of Angus. According to F. Marian McNeill, the first
