At the But ‘n’ Ben, Auchmithie, near Arbroath, is to be found some of the finest traditional home-cooking. Margaret Horn’s son Angus is now in charge in the kitchen where Margaret was head chef for many years. In the kitchen, the best of local produce, such as the marvellous fresh shellfish and fish, especially Arbroath Smokies, is used: everything is home-made – from the jam to spread on the towering scones, to the soups, puddings and cakes.
