‘Scotch’ pancake to Sassenachs, simply ‘pancakes’ to Scots. They are also known as ‘drop scones’ down south, because the batter is loose enough to be dropped onto the girdle.
This is fast food as it was meant to be. From mixing the ingredients for these pancakes to eating them warm, with a cup of tea, takes as little as 10 minutes. And what could be more delicious or easy than making pancakes to eat with butter and jam – either on a girdle or in a frying pan.
