Gather a small pailful of winkles on the rocks at low tide. Put them into a pot, cover them with water, and bring them to the boil. Take out the winkles (reserving the liquor) and pick the fish out of the shells with a long pin. Strain carefully the water they were boiled in, as it is often sandy, and return it to the pot. It will probably be too salt, so it is an advantage to use equal proport
