Hands down this is one of my favourite soup recipes. The creamy butterbeans are the perfect balance for the smoky paprika and sweetness of the potatoes.


  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1 onion, peeled and roughly chopped

Heat a pot on a medium heat and add the oil or butter. Fry the onion and garlic for 5–10 minutes until they soften slightly.

Add the sweet potato, carrots, drained butter beans and smoked paprika to the pot, and stir to mix everything together.
