This was a random concoction to try and shoehorn a pear into a soup. We are so glad that it worked because it is a truly stunning soup, excellent for impressing lunch guests, and it really tastes like Christmas.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1 onion, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2

Method

Heat a pot on a medium-low heat and add the oil or butter. Fry the onion and garlic for 5–10 minutes until they soften slightly.

Add the pear and carrots to the pot along with the split peas and mixed spice. Give it all a stir.
