Pineapple or mango with salt and chilli

This dish is ideal with arrack, Sri Lanka’s national liquor. It is also sold on the beach and at the island’s many historic sites. As kids we would climb our own mango tree and get one of our aunties to make it for us.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon

Method

Combine the salt, chilli powder and pepper. Peel the fruit and cut it into fingers, thread it onto skewers, then sprinkle with the chilli salt mixture. Allow to stand for 30 minutes before serving.
