There was a lagoon on the other side of the lodge at Arugam Bay that opened out to one of the best surf spots in the world. At night the prawn fishermen used to come here with massive torches made of cloth wound around a bamboo pole. These were suspended over the lagoon while the fishermen cast hand nets into the water. Each time the nets came back full of large jumbo prawns with long claws and brilliant blue bodies. The prawn curry from this lodge is one of the best we have tasted.
