Delicious with a cup of Ceylon tea, and a lovely treat at Christmas time, this cake probably originates from the Dutch or Portuguese. It has become a national sweet and its recipe, although simple, is hard to perfect.

Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F/Gas 2).

Place the butter and semolina in a bowl and stir until well combined.
