Nestled in the small, rural village of Batim in North Goa sits the Casa Menezes residence: a picturesque heritage homestay with tall, swaying palms, paddy fields, saltpans and a beautiful lake surrounding the village. Breakfasts are worth getting up for there. Each morning Goan potato bhaji was prepared for us by the staff of the homestay. We ate it with freshly baked warm pao or sanna, the Goan version of Indian idli (savoury rice cakes).
