I don’t want to offend anyone from eccles in daring to propose a recipe, I’m not a northerner. These are predominantly currants, as they should be, but they are not strictly authentic. We like them
Melt the butter and sugar together and carry on cooking gently until it turns a deep golden colour. Add the orange zest, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook for a couple of minutes then add the fruit and mixed peel.
Stir everything together and keep cooking until you have a thick sticky mix. Remove from the pan and leave to cool.
