Toss cooked sticky rice with some simple seasonings and you have a fast, warm, delicious salad. You can make this as grand as you like by adding a variety of vegetables. However you make it, it’s great with fish or meat grilled with Asian seasonings.

Ingredients

  • cups sticky (or glutinous) rice, soaked in water to cover for at least 1 hour or, preferably, overnight
  • 2 tablespoons peanut or other

Method

  1. Drain the soaked rice and wrap it loosely in a piece of cheesecloth; there’s no need to tie the cheesecloth closed.
  2. Place the cheesecloth in the top of a steamer over boiling water, cover the steamer, and steam for about 8 minutes, until all traces of chalkiness are gone and the rice is fully tender.
