Served hot with vanilla ice cream, this is a most unusual, elegant, and instantly likable dessert. After all the tomato is a fruit. The two kinds of ginger give it zing, but the combination of plenty of butter and brown sugar creates a butterscotch flavor that makes the dish familiar and homey.

Ingredients

  • 4 firm but ripe tomatoes (about 6 ounces each)
