Method

Cut the onions in thin slices; melt some butter and cook them till they are a good golden brown colour. Then add a pinch of flour and sufficient water, salt and pepper, bring to the boil and cook about a quarter of an hour. Add grated cheese. Have ready some thin slices of dry bread fried in a mixture of butter and grated cheese. Pour the soup over these when ready and serve very hot.
