When I was growing up, our family rarely ate out. Sunday was the exception. Every week after church, we were lucky enough to head to the country club for brunch, where we always sat at the same table. Stella, our very favorite server, would make us Shirley Temples with extra cherries and place them at our seats before we arrived. As a child, this thoughtful gesture made me feel so special and known. I remind myself often of her hospitality, and I try to emulate it for my guests.
