You hear the word joujou a lot in the Southern port cities of New Orleans, Mobile, and Charleston. It sounds like both the French term for “plaything” and the African word for “sacred object.” Both meanings are fitting for this smooth and golden drink. Imbibing it will have you possessive of your glass in no time. The playfulness here is the wonderful flavor of apple, which makes for the best apple “juice” ever.
