Meyer lemons have been cultivated for decades in the South, ever since “plant hunter” Frank N. Meyer first discovered the stunted citrus tree in China in 1908 and brought specimens back to grow in the United States. Their magic lies in their sweetness—they’re much less tart than traditional lemons and are thought to be a cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange.
