If you find the whole idea of cottage cheese in your lasagna a little too nontraditional, ricotta will work in its place. But do me a favor and try it just once with cottage cheese. You might be surprised by how much you like it!

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ¾ pound (340 g) ground beef roun

Method

  1. In a 5-quart (4.7-L) Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and sausage and cook, stirring to crumble, until meat starts to brown but some pink still remains, 2 to 3 minutes. Add onion and bell pepper to meat and cook, continuing to stir and crumble meat, until vegetables are soft and meat is fully browned, about 4 more minutes. Add garlic and cook,
