Invented in 1968 by Detroit bartender Jerome Adams at the Bayview Yacht Club, the Hummer quickly became a Michigan classic. Thick, creamy, and tasting like coffee ice cream, this blend of rum, Kahlúa, and vanilla ice cream captured the spirit of Detroit’s sailing scene and spread across the state.

Ingredients

  • ounces white rum
  • ounces Kahlúa or crème de cacao
  • 2

Method

Add the rum, Kahlúa, ice cream, and crushed ice to a blender and blend on medium-high speed until smooth. Pour into a chilled rocks glass or highball glass and serve.
