This is a purely summer interpretation of the traditional Hungarian soup, meg-gykeszöce. In some traditional versions the cherries are cooked with cinnamon, lemons, and sometimes cloves. I always find that the spices distort the flavor of the cherries, and in any case I associate the flavor of these spices with winter and such things as mulled wine and hot cider.
