These beautiful sweets from Zurich are essentially a flavoured marzipan, pressed into wooden forms. Quite unlike other, gingerbready Leckerli found in Switzerland (especially Basel) these detailed beauties can be coloured and flavoured with a range of different nuts and spices, like green pistachios, dark chocolate, or pink sandalwood.

Although it’s not clear exactly when Zurich’s variation of the Leckerli took shape, recipes for it started appearing in 1912. Like Tirggel, another o
