Tirggel was a favourite treat of guilds, especially as it was popular to have the emblem of the guild pressed into the cookie. After long meetings and merrymaking, the guild members would tipsily sway home with the honey-flavoured cookie in hand (penance for their wives) amongst catcalls echoing in the street ‘he’s got a Tirggel!’, which became a synonym for being drunk.
