'Have you made your Hosenknöpfli yet?'
So ask the citizens of the Graubünden towns of Thusis and Masein during Lent. These buttery cookies, traditionally flavoured with rosewater, are a popular treat around that time of year and have been made in the region for over a century.
If you don’t have rosewater, rum is an acceptable alternative according to some. It takes time to form all the little buttons, so plan for a bit of work, or enlist some small hands to roll the cookies.
