Pfaffenhüetli ('priest’s hats') are named after its shape, which recalls a biretta, a three- or four-cornered hat worn by the clergy. Today, these pyramids are often filled with nuts and sold in bakeries and supermarkets.
However, taking a look back into old cookbooks these cookies were called by many slightly varying names (which all mean 'little priest’s hats') and filled primarily with jam. Susannah Müller’s 1860 cookbook describes her Pfaffenkäppchen as four-cornered and filled
