These deliciously sweet treats are a favourite with children and adults a like. In Thailand, you will find them on sale from portable road side stalls and markets at almost every hour of the day and night.


  • 115 g/4 oz/1 cup plain (allpurpose) flour

  1. Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a large bowl. Stir in the granulated sugar and the egg, and whisk in just enough of the water to make quite a thin batter.

  2. Whisk the shredded coconut or sesame seeds into the batter so that
