Year after year this wonderful steamed pudding is the favorite dessert at our house on Thanksgiving. Even the kids come back for seconds. The recipe is fairly straightforward and easy to do—the only problem is getting persimmons that are ripe enough. They begin to appear in the market just around Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, they are often unripe—too firm and tannic. A ripe persimmon should be pillow soft and delicately silky inside.
