Bagatelle aux fraises is a classic French cake that is always made in a square shape. It is composed of two sponge cake layers filled with a thick layer of Diplomat cream (or Bavarian cream) and strawberries cut in half lengthwise and arranged so that their cut sides are visible at the circumference of the finished cake.
