It is traditional in Sweden to decorate the Christmas tree in part with edible ornaments, such as chocolate figures, marzipan Santas, and decorated gingerbread cookies. The cookies were not to be touched by eager little hands when I was growing up, only looked at with wide eyes. We each had our favorites picked out and spoken for long before Christmas Day, when we were finally allowed to eat them.
