If you work regularly with marzipan, you probably have a supply of tinted portions on hand, in which case you can ignore the instructions here for tinting the small pieces. If you do not, my recommendation is to tint a base supply, using food coloring to make red, yellow, and green shades and cocoa powder for a brown shade.
