Strong vanilla flavor combined with brown sugar and chocolate is the signature of these rich, moist cookies. The confectioner’s sugar coating gives the finished cookies a dramatic look.

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a heatproof bowl set over (but not touching) simmering water, heat the chocolate and butter, stirring frequently, until both have melted and the mixture is smooth, about 5 minutes.
