Perfect mashed potatoes require the right potato. For me, Yukon Gold is the ideal choice—it is good baked, roasted or cut into fries, and as mash potatoes it is the gold standard. This dish is my go-to comfort food. Whether on its own, drizzled with melted butter or gravy or as a side dish, it is happiness for your tummy and soul.
Place the diced potatoes and whole garlic cloves in a large pot of salted water. Place over high heat, bring to a boil and cook for about 20 minutes, until the potatoes and garlic are soft.
Drain the water through a fine mesh strainer and return potatoes and garlic to the pot. Mash the potatoes and garlic until smooth, then add the whipping cream and melted butter. Place the pot back on
